During Tuesday’s episode of MS NOW’s “The Last Word,” Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger (D) expressed her belief that Republicans recognized that their only hope of holding onto a majority in the House of Representatives hinged on manipulative tactics. She suggested that this strategy involved targeting seats in states like Texas, which she claims was part of an initiative spearheaded by the president.
Lawrence O’Donnell, the show’s host, posed a question to Spanberger: “Given your recent transition from the House of Representatives to the governorship, what are your thoughts on the implications if Republicans were to collaborate with Donald Trump to bolster their numbers in the House and maintain control for an additional two years?”
Spanberger responded by asserting that Republicans were acutely aware their slim majority in the House was precarious. She argued that their survival strategy involved unscrupulous tactics, such as pursuing seats in regions like Texas. Spanberger linked this approach to efforts initiated by the president, who she believes anticipated a blue wave similar to the one in 2018, fueled by dissatisfaction with his leadership, foreign conflicts, high gas prices, and unmet promises. She suggested that these factors could drive a repeat of Democratic gains in the 2026 midterm elections.
