Aurora’s birth came one year after Blanchard’s release from prison, where she had served seven years for her role in the murder of her abusive mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.

Blanchard and Urker had a turbulent, on-and-off relationship. They became engaged in October 2018 while she was incarcerated, but split several months later before reuniting in August 2019.

After separating again for several years, Blanchard married Ryan Scott Anderson in July 2022 while she was still serving time for her mother’s killing.

Three months after her release, in March 2024, Blanchard announced that she and Anderson had separated. She and Urker reconciled the following month.

As a child, Blanchard was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Her mother, Dee Dee, forced her to appear seriously ill and required her to remain in a wheelchair in public.

Dee Dee also shaved Gypsy-Rose’s head and kept her drugged, leading others to believe that the girl had muscular dystrophy and leukemia.

Their abusive relationship ended in 2015, when Gypsy-Rose’s boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, entered their home in Springfield, Missouri, and fatally stabbed Dee Dee. She was 48.

Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and spent nearly 10 years in prison before receiving early parole and being released in December 2022.
