Hailey Bieber Health Update: Did Hailey Bieber Have Hole in Her Heart?

As a result of having a stroke last year, Hailey Baldwin Bieber is imparting some knowledge.

A hole called a patent foramen ovale (PFO), which occurs when the left and right sides of the heart are affected, has been present in the 26-year-old model’s heart for one year, she recently disclosed on her Instagram Story.

Baldwin Bieber posted a YouTube video from last year in which she described how she learned about the PFO and said, “Can’t believe it’s been a year since my mini-stroke that led to my PFO diagnosis.

“Given that it’s the one-year mark from such a life-changing event, I wanted to share all the information I’ve learned about PFO and share resources to donate,” she added, posting a donation link to UCLA Health, who helped diagnose her condition.

She then shared some information about PFO from UCLA Health in her next two Instagram Story slides, including that it is “the most congenital heart defect” and impacts “20% of all people.”

After suffering a stroke, Hailey Bieber underwent a procedure to seal a hole in her heart, calling it “the scariest moment of my life.”

According to the article, PFO occurs “60% of the time among first-degree relatives” and is “likely to occur in 60% of individuals who have an undetermined cause of stroke.”

She provided some details about PFO in a subsequent post, stating that everyone has a “passageway between the left and right atria of the heart” before birth, but that it ultimately closes.

However, “in around one in four people, the flap does not close,” like in Baldwin Bieber’s case.

In an April video, Baldwin Bieber described how she had a transcranial Doppler, a “more precise” and “in-depth” ultrasound test, following her mini-stroke. This test is used to identify strokes brought on by blood clots.

The smallest hole between her left and right sides of her heart, according to her diagnosis, measured between 12 and 13 millimeters and was classified as a Rating 5 PFO, the “highest grade” that could be assigned.

On the advice of her doctor, she then endured a procedure to close the PFO. She claimed that her heart tissue would regrow around the closure device after a tiny, button-like item was inserted through the femoral vein in her groin to seal the tiny hole.
