What is A Thousand Blows?
A Thousand Blows is a new Disney+ drama about the gritty and dangerous side of 1880s London, England.
It centres around two pals – Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe – who have moved from Jamaica.
The pair find themselves shoved into Victorian London’s fierce bare-knuckle fighting scene.
The friends are then exploited by the criminal boss Queen of the Forty Elephants, Mary Carr.
The pals’ struggles do not stop there as they also battle with the self-declared emperor of the East End boxing world, Sugar Goodson, who sees the duo as a threat.
This drama-filled series was created by Peaky Blinders’ writer Steven Knight.
Who were Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe?
The duo from Jamaica were in fact real people in 1800s London.
A boxer named Hezekiah Moscow regularly appeared in local newspapers from the time, according to historians.
Many of these articles centered around his fighting but one clipping said he also worked at the East London Aquarium.
Despite this, there were only three official records of this fierce fighter, according to Biography.com.
Alec Munroe was Moscow’s real life trainer and sparring partner.
Munroe died following an argument at a lodging house in 1885.
What happened to the real Hezekiah Moscow?
Moscow continued to fight even after Munroe’s death.
He fought into the 1890s but later settled down and had a daughter, named Eliza, with his wife Mary.
The family reportedly later moved to New York.

This exciting new series will be released on Disney+ on February 21, 2025.
