A hiker has tragically died after plummeting 30 metres and paraglider has been  seriously injured during at horror weekend at a popular mountain in Queensland. 

The woman was hiking Mount Beerwah, in the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast, when she fell to her death down a 30m drop about 1.40pm on Saturday.

Authorities spent the night working to recover the body, with the woman yet to be formally identified by police. 

The fatality came just hours after a paraglider had to be rescued after being blown into a cliff.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the paraglider was jumping from a path known as the Organ Pipes when he was knocked back into the side of the mountain. 

‘[It appears] he’s launched and was blown back by the wind and hit the mountain,’ she said. 

The man, aged in his 50s, suffered significant injuries to his head, chest and spine and fractured his legs. 

He was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious condition.

In a third incident, emergency services were called to the mountain about 4.45pm on Saturday after a male hiker fell 10 metres into a gorge. 

The man, aged in his 20s, is believed to have been walking along the northern track when he lost his footing and plunged several metres.  

A RACQ LifeFlight helicopter – which had been deployed to recover the woman’s body – was redirected to help winch the hiker to safety.

A paramedic was lowered down the cliff to treat the man for a dislocated shoulder before he was secured onto a stretcher and lifted into the chopper.

He was taken to Sunshine Coast Hospital for treatment.
