The Houston Police Officers’ Union is actively seeking to attract New York City police officers who are dissatisfied with the recent mayoral election results that saw Zohran Mamdani’s victory. The union is reaching out to these officers, inviting them to consider new opportunities in Texas.
On Tuesday, the union took to Facebook, sharing a post that boldly asks, “NYPD, ARE YOU DISGUSTED WITH THE ELECTION OF ZOHRAN MAMDANI?” The message is clear: those disillusioned with the political shift in New York City’s leadership are encouraged to “JOIN US!” in the Houston Police Department, which is actively recruiting new officers.
Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, made headlines when he won the mayoral race on Tuesday, defeating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani had previously garnered attention after triumphing over Cuomo in the Democratic primary in June, capturing the nation’s interest.
In October, Mamdani issued an apology to the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for past criticisms where he had labeled the force as “racist,” “wicked,” and “corrupt.” Despite this outreach, tensions remain within the city’s police community regarding his leadership.
Mamdani in October apologized to the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for previous critiques directed toward the police force, in which he referred to them as “racist,” “wicked” and “corrupt.”
“Absolutely, I’ll apologize to police officers right here, because this is the apology that I’ve been sharing with many rank-and-file officers,” Mamdani told Fox News’s Martha MacCallum when questioned if he would make a public apology to the officers.
“And I apologize because of the fact that I’m looking to work with these officers. And I know that these officers, these men and women who serve in the NYPD, they put their lives on the line every single day,” he added.
The campaign arm of House Republicans, meanwhile, is launching a battleground ad blitz linking Democrats to Mamdani, who has faced scrutiny from the right over his democratic socialist affiliation.
In a press release, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) said that it put out a paid ad campaign across 49 “battleground districts” in the wake of Mamdani’s victory emphasizing “the Democrat Party’s full embrace of socialism.”
The Hill has reached out to the Mamdani campaign for comment.
