A SOFI bank customer broke down in tears after her account was frozen for over a week.
She posted the video on TikTok, explaining that it was taken down at first and decided to reupload it to “bring light to this issue.”
@904Diary explained that she had called SoFi every day but had received the same response each time.
“They’re just like ‘oh, you have to wait until they review it.’ And I’m like, who’s they?” she said in the two-minute video.
She asked if she could be connected to the person reviewing her account, but claims the bank told her that she doesn’t have access to them.
“I’m like, girl, I have bills to pay, like, I’m overdue on my bills because my account is frozen,” she said.
“I can’t do anything. I literally can’t take anything out. I can’t deposit anything. I can’t even access my account or routing information.”
She claimed that SoFi kept telling her that she would have to wait so she called the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after learning on Reddit that the group could reach out to her bank on her behalf and get a quicker response.
“I haven’t really gotten an update yet,” she said. “It’s been like two days since I reported the claim to them.”
She said the entire situation was frustrating, saying that they were “holding my money hostage” without giving a reason.
“They’re not telling me why, there is like…my bank is under investigation,” she said. “I don’t get it.”
The TikToker said she couldn’t even close her account, claiming the bank said it could only be closed after the investigation.
“They won’t even give me a time frame,” she said, adding that she asked how long the investigation would take.
“They’re like ‘we’re not allowed to give you a time frame.’ Okay, so you’re useless.”
She said the entire situation was reaching a point “where I’m just like going insane.”
In a follow-up video, she explained that she also followed up with the Better Business Bureau but still hasn’t received an update from SoFi, adding that she didn’t get a warning about an error in her account.
“It was very sudden,” she said.
She added that her credit score dropped 70 points due to not being able to pay her bills on time.
“I might be homeless next time you see me but we’ll see.”
Her comments were filled with people advising on what to do.
“Call your credit card companies and let them know immediately about what’s going on so they can defer your credit card payments,” wrote one person.
“Don’t wait till it’s too late. Ask for a supervisor and just be honest.”
“So scary that this can happen. I have a few bank accts but I have a primary and I’d be down bad if it were locked,” wrote another person. “Please update us when you have one.”
