In this video, the shopper recorded himself walking out of the store with what sounded like his shopping cart as he made a comment to someone.

He said: “Have a good day.”

It is not clear who this person was but it seemed to be a member of staff.

The customer’s key to avoiding receipt checks was to “never break your stride.”

As the customer walked out, a member of staff could not be heard asking for their receipt.

The Tiktoker explained why he opposed showing his receipt to Walmart staff in the video’s comments.

A viewer commented: “How come people don’t wanna show there recipe.”

The content creator replied and said: “Because once a purchase is complete, that’s MY receipt I don’t need anyone to verify my purchases.”

Other viewers commented and agreed with the video’s take on receipt checking.

One TikToker said: “Just like that’s.

“Works like a charm every time.”

Another person shared what they do when they avoid receipt checks at Walmart.

They said: “I look them directly in the eye as I walk out.”

A number of lawyers have come out and explained that stores like Walmart cannot legally enforce receipt checks or detain people who refuse to show theirs, The US Sun has previously reported.

Lawyer Alex Colangelo said that customers are within their rights to walk away if they are asked.

Colangelo said: “Police officers have the power to arrest … but store security and loss-prevention officers are regular people.

“They have much more limited powers of arrest under the criminal code.

“They can ask you to show your receipt and you can consensually allow them to do it, but there is no power or authority to detain you if you say no.”

The lawyer added that this did not apply to stores like Costco because part of their membership application required customers to agree to receipt checks at their stores.

Another lawyer, Michael Bryant, informed shoppers of a phrase they can use to remove themselves from receipt checks at non-membership stores like Walmart.

He said shoppers should say: “Thanks but no thanks,” and then walk away.
