A TARGET shopper has been left frustrated after they were charged twice for one item after a self-checkout machine error.
The retail giant has faced endless backlash against their self-checkout technology.
“Went to @Target earlier and realized I double rang myself up for a single energy drink,” a shopper tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The self-checkout said it didn’t read the item, so I scanned it again and the receipt and app say I was charged for qty 2…”
Target customers have raged about self-checkout on social media in regards to its long lines and lack of staffing.
One shopper slammed the company after it was revealed that it reportedly wanted to add a new paid membership for its customers.
“@Target watch how fast I drop you and your red card if you roll out your proposed membership program!” the shopper wrote on X.
“You can’t even control your LINES in stores. Why should we pay for a membership when self-checkout takes 30 min to get through or even longer for normal lanes?”
In another instance, a shopper detailed their recent trip to a location in South Carolina that ended in them dropping their items and walking out.
“Target needs to be ashamed of themselves,” the tweet read.
“Can I tell y’all they had 3 self-checkouts open and one register and a line from self-checkout to the back of the store.
“I left my basket and walked out.”
Target replied to the customer’s complaint saying, “Thank you for reaching out to us and bringing this to our attention.
“We will make sure to notate this feedback for the Target store’s leadership team.”
In October, the store rolled out a new policy to several locations that limited self-checkout lanes to 10 items or less.
The company claimed that this change was intended to shorten lines and wait times.
“At select locations, we are testing self-checkout lanes of 10 items or fewer in order to reduce wait times and better understand guest preferences,” a Target spokesperson told The U.S. Sun.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to Target for comment.
