A RETIREE has been forced to go back to work after money ran low – she says she might have to quit working soon but she’s as focused as ever to reach her goals.

Tameka has shared her journey on TikTok, hoping to inspire others with her videos, which have earned her nearly 90,000 followers on the platform.

In a video, Tameka revealed her retirement money was running low, forcing her to return to work.

She found humor in the situation by lip-synching a quote from President Joe Biden about being focused.

“How would you say your mental focus is?” the audio started.

“Oh, it’s focused,” Tameka mouthed. “Look, I have trouble even mentioning – even saying to myself in my own head the number of years.

The audio continues with Biden seemingly stumbling over his words as he answers the question.

“I haven’t observed anything in terms of…there’s not things I don’t do now that I did before whether it’s physical or mental or anything else.”

The onscreen text of the video read: “POV: When that retirement $$ is running low and you gotta go back to work.”

Tameka isn’t alone as a study by Paychex, a provider of human capital management solutions for payroll, benefits, and human resources, found that roughly one in six retired Americans consider returning to work.

On average, those that do return – also called, “unretiring” – have been out of the workplace for about four years.

The top reasons participants said they returned to work were for “personal reasons” (57%), “needing more money” (53%), and “getting bored” (52%)

“Feeling lonely” (45%) and “inflation” (45%) also made the top five.

Other reasons included needing health insurance coverage, a fear of outliving their savings, and the need for more social interaction.

Unretirement has become more commonplace over the years with a participation rate of adults ages 65 to 74 in the workforce being 25.8% in 2021, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This is expected to rise to 30.7% in 2031 and for those 75 and older, it is expected to reach 11.1%.
