A FORMER Walmart shopper has explained why she boycotted the chain in the wake of an unpleasant self-checkout experience.
Mary was asked to show a receipt even though the register she used allegedly didn’t provide one.
The woman claimed this led to her being stuck at the store for 20 minutes in a video uploaded to the TikTok account @tateandmary, which she shares with her husband.
The clip has been liked more than 13,000 times as of Friday morning.
“I was just at Walmart, and they have someone who’s standing by the door to check receipts,” Mary said.
“Normally, they don’t even ask… Like, you can just leave, and they’re not worried about it.”
She claimed that several workers saw her pay for her groceries.
“I was standing at the self-checkout so close to the guy who checks receipts. He’s watching me, right?” Mary said.
“There’s a lady there also watching me. And I pay for everything, everything’s bagged, put it in the cart.”
The shopper said she waited for a receipt, but that the machine never printed it out.
This became a problem when a worker asked for a receipt at the exit.
“Can you give me a receipt?” Mary asked.
“And she said no,” the shopper claimed.
That angered Mary.
“You can’t just keep me in the store,” she said.
“You just watched me pay for all my stuff.”

But Mary claimed that the worker didn’t have any sympathy.
“Ma’am, why are you being so difficult?” the employee allegedly asked.
“I’m not going back there,” Mary said at the end of her video.
“I don’t care how cheap it is.”
She later posted a follow-up clip explaining how she managed to get out of the situation.
Mary claimed she was forced to stand in line at the customer service department.
There, a worker was reportedly able to confirm the TikToker paid for her goods after she handed over her credit card.
Commenters below the video were also upset about the situation.
“Lawsuit,” one said.
“They cannot stop you like that,” said another.
“Should have called the cops yourself.”
Another noted that if Mary paid properly, there would be video evidence to prove it.
“There are cameras over the register while you are checking out your items,” the commenter said.
“Have them pull the camera footage.”
Other commenters shared how they protest Walmart’s policies.
“I rate my visit as (one star) every time I have to use self-checkout because they don’t have cashiers,” a different TikToker said.
“It’s my silent protest haha.”
Walmart didn’t immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
