A SENIOR citizen fears losing her home over a surprise cable bill that she was unaware of.

Mary Rainey from Minneapolis started receiving notices about her unpaid cable bill despite never having to pay for cable.

The grandmother lives at Sabathani Senior Housing and unexpectedly received a bill of $478 in late charges.

“They just handed that note to me and put it in my door,” She told Fox 9.

The debt arose following her failure to pay $30 per month for cable.

However, the senior resident’s family explained to the news outlet that she is not required to pay her cable bill.

Rainey’s grandson Xavier Lawson said: “This is absolutely a hidden fee. My grandma pays all of her bills.”

According to Rainey’s lease, cable fees do not apply to her and she pays her own Xfinity bill.

As the family continued to protest the bill, the overdue amount continued to climb to over $500.

“I am tired of fighting. I have thought about just going and get, you know, getting the money and just giving it to them,” Rainey said.

She added that money is tight as she is on a fixed income, saying that “it’s kind of scary.”

According to the news outlet, Sabathani CEO Scott Redd said that they use a third-party property management company but that he is disappointed at the issue facing Rainey.

He added that the company would endeavor to resolve the issue.
