Benjamin Harre (@Roningt) shared a story on how a shoplifter went to great lengths to steal from the retailer.

He claimed the thief saw there was medicine in the security box and decided instead of asking assistance to purchase it, he would take it to the hardware section instead.

Once he made it down to the aisle, he found a hammer from the store and proceeded to smash the box open. He tried to conceal the medicine in his jacket, but there was no use.

“He makes his way to the door, so I stepped in front of him to do my speal. I get him to come into the office. This dude claims he was an ex-AP for Walmart and that he knows all of our policies,” Harre claimed in his video.

“He said he knows he’s under the dollar amount and I can’t prosecute him, and that I should just save myself the embarrassment and just let him go.”

Walmart typically does not prosecute theft charges that are under $100, but shoplifters could still receive a fine or appear in court, according to The Umansky Law Firm.

However, Walmart has not confirmed if this was a policy in place in his store.

The social media star explained that despite what the man might have thought, the police still showed up.

“He starts freaking out. He keeps saying ‘I did everything right, I’m under the dollar amount, you can’t prosecute me,'” he said.

“But I’m like,’ about that dollar amount, you broke my keeper box and those are about $10-$20 a piece, plus you used my hammer and I’m not sure if it’s resellable so if you factor all the loss you caused you are well over the dollar amount and I’m prosecuting.'”

“Y’all don’t underestimate my level of #petty,” he captioned the video.

Former Walmart employees have spoken out about how easy it is to catch people stealing due to their cameras.

Jorge Soto, known for his YouTube channel (@Horchata Soto) claimed that he learned while working at the store, why it was the worst place for shoplifters to target.

“The cameras would zoom in get license plates, face track, [and] they could even follow people walking into the Wendy’s that was in that same plaza with us,” he explained in a video.

“When they would catch a crook all hands on deck.”

Even at self-checkout, another employee revealed that someone was always waiting to catch a shoplifter.

She explained: “We really pay attention to what you’re scanning because we don’t even have another job other than to look at what you’re scanning.

“When you hear that phone ring, it means loss prevention is calling to have us check your screen to see if the stuff you scanned actually went into your cart.”
