The Meadowlark Lakes & Villas HOA has announced that they are proposing an annual fee increase. If the new rule comes to pass, it will be nonreversable.

“If you’re planning on taking away my right to vote, I would like to be told that. I don’t want it to be hidden, in 68 covenant changes,” Procyk, told local CW affiliate WISH-TV.

Paula Moore, president of the Meadowlark Board of Directors, told the local station that the board is considering increases due to unpaid HOA dues.

Moore was suggested by HOA’s management company to add a fee increase in order to cover the current $8,000 budget deficit.

The board president claimed the money for these fees is used to cover groundskeeping, pond maintenance, and snow removal.

Over the years these services have gotten more expensive, creating another cause for concern for the HOA.

In the proposal, the board is looking to impose a 4.5 percent increase in dues starting January 1. After that, they would begin a 3-5 percent annual increase that would start in July.

Moore told the local news network that up until 2021, the  Meadowlark Lakes & Villas HOA fees have not gone up for 20 years.

However, the increasing unpaid homeowners’ dues have caused them to dip into their reserves to cover basic expenses.

Procyk moved to the community in 2021 and revealed that he experienced up to a 17 percent increase in the two years he lived in the community.

“There are definitely costs that have skyrocketed and gone up, totally out of our control, but that doesn’t mean when we look at our budget, I can still try and save money. I can still try and bring costs down,” said Procyk.

Procyk went on to share his sympathy for his neighbors when it came to the fee increases.

“When I go to the store, I can afford to buy things. There may be people in this neighborhood that yes, they’re not even paying their dues now, because they can’t afford to, but what’s going to happen when you keep raising them every 6th month?”

The Meadowlark Lakes HOA plans to officially vote on these changes at its annual meeting on October 10.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Meadowlark Lakes & Villas HOA for comment.
