The Lagos State Safety Commission has shut down a construction site due to a severe crane accident that occurred there. The incident involved crane operations and raised immediate safety concerns.
The state government reported that an initial investigation conducted by Safety Commission officials, who quickly reached the scene, indicated that the crane operator, Rotimi Adesina, suffered critical injuries and was taken to a hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where he unfortunately passed away.
Safety officials informed that they had discussions with the Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu, regarding the incident and requested documentation for the crane. They stated that these important documents are maintained at the Company’s Head Office.
The company has been directed to submit all necessary documentation relating to the crane and overall project operations for thorough review by the Commission.
The Director-General, Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, directed that the construction site be sealed with an abatement notice served to eliminate any immediate danger and protect the lives of all workers on site.
Mojola said the safety of lives is key, and on no account should safety precautionary measures be compromised. He disclosed that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The DG, Safety Commission commiserates with the family of the deceased, assuring the public of the state government’s continued commitment to preventing the recurrence of such tragic incidents through the strict enforcement of safety regulations.
