However, Fetterman has in recent years has shown more moderate stripes on a number of issues, including his support for Israel and its unrelenting war in Gaza. Fetterman has also assisted Republicans on bipartisan issues and voted to confirm several of President Donald Trump ’s nominees, including Attorney General Pam Bondi.

During an interview on Fox’s ‘Sunday Morning Futures,’ Bartiromo asked Fetterman about whether he would ever leave the Democratic party to join the GOP. ‘We know there’s been real extremists who have tried to hijack the Democratic party, and whether it’s policy or the way they talk, and look, you’ve seen it on the right in some cases as well, all the way,’ Bartiromo said.

‘But on the left, you’ve got such extremes, Would you consider switching parties?’ ‘No, I’m not going to switch,’ Fetterman responded. ‘But I’m just going to be an independent voice in the Democratic Party. I’m not going to be afraid of people.’

Fetterman went on to bash Democrats for comparing Trump and Republican voters to Nazis . ‘If you want a Democrat that’s going to call people Nazis or fascists or all these kinds of things, well, I’m not going to be that guy,’ the senator added. ‘Independent thinking and views wherever I happen to believe the truth, regardless if it’s the Republican or the Democratic voice.’

Back in February, Fetterman traveled to Israel wearing his famous sweatshirt and basketball shorts to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The senator told Fox News on Sunday he will side with Israel over Hamas as the war in Gaza continues to intensify.

‘I follow Israel through this,” Fetterman noted. ‘And I would like to remind everybody if they were pushed into a ceasefire a year ago, you know, the beepers and [killing of Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar and eliminating all of Hezbollah and Iran now too — think of where they could be, what they’ve accomplished.’

‘And now it’s end game. And this war does have to end, and that’s why Netanyahu’s been forced to do this and go into Gaza City .’ Fetterman concluded, ‘That’s why I’m going to follow Israel, just as I’ve done for now going on two years.'

As Fetterman's divide with progressives grows in the Democratic party, his 2022 primary opponent Conor Lamb may smell blood in the water. 'Just so, so unbelievably lazy,' Lamb wrote on X following news Fetterman may vote with Republicans to avoid a shutdown.
