Jonathan Joss Death Cause: Who Is The Suspect?

On June 1, 2025, Joss was approached by a neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, who allegedly yelled homophobic slurs at Joss before shooting and killing him. The suspect Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja was arrested shortly afterward. The two neighbors have been embroiled in a longstanding feud that has been ongoing for years, with police being called multiple times.

According to the San Antonio Police Dept… and eyewitnesses … On June 1, 2025, Joss got into a heated argument with his neighbor Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja at a house on the city’s south side Sunday night before shooting and killing Joss.
Police say the suspect Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja whipped out a gun and pumped several bullets into the actor before fleeing in a vehicle. Officers responded to a call of a shooting in progress and received a description of the car.

According to police, the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody a block from the residence.

Meanwhile, paramedics raced to the scene and provided medical assistance, but they were unable to save Joss, who was pronounced dead.

Joss died at the scene despite paramedics’ best efforts to save him, TMZ reported.

The Bexar County Detention Center is where 56-year-old suspect Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja is being detained. His bond was set at $200,000, and he has been charged with criminal first-degree murder.

He was taken into custody around 6.30 am on June 2 after being apprehended at 7:05 p.m. on June 1.

His death occurred hours after he posted an Instagram video of himself strolling around Austin and mentioning that he had already recorded lines for four King of the Hill episodes, and two days after he and other King of the Hill cast members attended the 2025 ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas.

Following the murder, Kern de Gonzales wrote on Instagram that they had been verbally abused by locals for years, using homophobic epithets and threatening to set their house on fire.

Kern de Gonzales continued by saying that the house had burned down as a result of years of threats from their neighbors, to which Gonzales and Joss had reported the threats, but the police had not acted.

Kern de Gonzales called the attack a gay hate crime on Joss’ Facebook page.

“Our investigation has found no evidence whatsoever to indicate that the murder of Mr. Joss was related to his sexual orientation,” the San Antonio Police Department said in a statement.
