The idea that the Texas Senate seat, soon to be vacated by Sen. John Cornyn, could flip in an election has been amusingly suggested by several self-proclaimed “political experts.” Despite this chatter among the Commentariatâ„¢, I’m not inclined to label any race as a “sure thing” in today’s unpredictable political landscape. We’ve seen too many surprises to take anything for granted.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to ignore the wealth of material Texas Democrat Senate nominee James Talarico has shared over the years, which could be prime fodder for his opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who enjoys the backing of former President Trump and is the newly chosen GOP Senate nominee.
As reported extensively by RedState, my colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell highlighted some of Talarico’s more controversial statements. These include his views that “God is non-binary,” that “whiteness and masculinity are problems to be reckoned with,” the assertion of “at least six genders,” and his opinion that “the American flag is a problematic symbol.” These remarks could prove to be significant talking points in the upcoming election battle.
