Tricia McLaughlin has been an integral part of Donald Trump’s circle since his inaugural term in 2017, yet it’s only recently that she’s embraced the iconic Republican aesthetic. As the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, McLaughlin offers strategic counsel to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. At 31, her resume includes prior roles in Trump’s initial administration and a stint as the communications director for Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, before she made her way back to Washington, D.C., to join the Department of Homeland Security.
Currently, McLaughlin collaborates closely with Noem, whose personal style has also attracted media attention. In her latest appearances on Fox News, McLaughlin seems to have adopted the ‘MAGA makeover,’ with noticeable changes to her hair and makeup that quickly caught viewers’ eyes. The term ‘Mar-a-Lago face’ has been coined to describe the distinct features of certain women in Trump’s entourage.
This phrase has been applied to several figures in Trump’s sphere, including Greek Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, and even Melania Trump. Older images from McLaughlin’s social media reveal a more understated look, marked by lighter makeup and a preference for softer colors, featuring muted pink lips and gentle eye shadow. Her long blonde hair previously appeared more relaxed, styled with a natural wave.
But in more recent interviews, the Department of Homeland Security staff member had applied noticeably heavier makeup, particularly around the eyes and lips, with harsher bronzer and blush. McLaughlin’s hair has also changed, with it now looking much more voluminous. Her makeover hasn’t gone unnoticed by observant viewers with many branding her as the new ‘MAGA Barbie.’ ‘Just another MAGA-doll…’ one wrote. ‘As long as you have the Mara-Lago look, credentials and competence mean nothing apparently,’ wrote another, in response to a Fox News segment.
Daily Mail previously reported that Trump ‘has long expressed admiration for those who look like they are from Hollywood “central casting.”‘ Although the look is synonymous with high-profile female Republicans, ordinary women and even some men are said to be requesting the makeover, and the prospective patients allegedly come from both sides of the political aisle. Noem is a prime example of a staffer who has undergone a MAGA makeover, with much speculation over potential cosmetic treatments.
Oregon-based plastic surgeon Dr Sean McNally, who did not examine or treat Noem, previously told the Daily Mail that he suspects Noem may have had a few cosmetic ‘tweakments’ as she’s stepped out in the limelight. He explained that the biggest differences he sees in her appearance are her ‘brow position’ as well as her ‘lip fullness.’ Specifically, Dr McNally told Daily Mail that he believes that Noem may have undergone an upper eyelid blepharoplasty, which removes excess skin and fat from the area.
‘It’s a bit hard to tell what’s going on with her upper eyelids with the new lashes, but I’d suspect she’s had an upper eyelid blepharoplasty with a brow pexy,’ Dr McNally said. When it comes to her changing pout, the plastic surgeon suspects lip filler. ‘Simple filler is the most likely reason for the increase in fullness, which also doesn’t happen naturally with the aging process,’ he explained.
Recently, actress Sydney Sweeney has also faced backlash, with critics declaring her ‘Mar A Lago transition is almost complete’ after a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The 28-year-old’s bob was straightened to metallic sleekness, and her features were cocooned in heavy makeup, including dark lipstick.
