LABOUR will press ahead with plans to make it easier for trans people to change their legal gender – despite fears it could hand Nigel Farage a major boost.

Home Office Minister Angela Eagle dismissed reports the policy had been dropped, saying the Government will stick to its manifesto pledge.

She told LBC: “That newspaper report is wrong.

“We’re going to put into effect our manifesto commitments…

“It’s not self ID. If you look in our manifesto it’s all in there it’s simplifying it and making it easier.”

Her comments come after The Times reported the plans were being quietly dropped to avoid a political storm.

Insiders told the newspaper pressing ahead would be “catnip” for Reform and hand fresh ammo to Elon Musk, as Donald Trump ramps up moves to protect single-sex spaces.

Labour’s proposed changes would let trans people get a gender recognition certificate with sign-off from just one doctor instead of two.

Ministers also wanted to scrap the rule forcing people to live as their new gender for two years before applying — something that would require reopening the Gender Recognition Act, a row Labour strategists would rather avoid.

Gender recognition and women’s rights have long been a headache for Labour, with Sir Keir Starmer toughening his stance on biological sex after previous struggles to define a woman.
