Labour’s record makes us queasy

IT IS rare for a Labour politician to openly admit that the Left has been ducking the realities of immigration.

On the surface Shabana Mahmood’s frank recognition that her party has been too “queasy” to confront the impact of rising migrant numbers is welcome.

The new Shadow Justice Secretary claims Labour is now “comfortable” discussing these legitimate concerns — though she refuses to say whether numbers should come down.

But her words would carry far more weight if she had not signed a shameful letter aimed at stopping the deportation of 50 foreign crooks to Jamaica.

The 2020 letter, which even suggested the thugs be handed taxpayer-funded mobile phones to help them with their attempts to stay in Britain, was also backed by Sir Keir Starmer.

A number of the convicts went on to commit violent or drug-related crimes after the Labour leader’s intervention.

Sir Softie is keen to disparage everything the Government has tried to do.

But his plan is to dish out visas to legalise asylum seekers.

And on small boats he wants the UK to accept unspecified numbers of migrants from the EU in exchange for them taking illegal arrivals back from this country.

That’s not queasy, it’s delusional.

Drac to the future

LIKE a vampire returning from the crypt, Peter Mandelson emerges in time for the Labour party conference.

If there was any suspicion about who is really pulling Sir Keir Starmer’s strings, it is surely beyond doubt today.

Lord Mandelson makes no secret of his Godfather-style advice for Starmer to “make voters an offer they can’t refuse”.

And it is clear the Dark Lord sees Sir Keir modelling himself on Tony Blair.

Labour expects voters to see them as the party of change and their conference slogan is: Let’s Get Britain’s Future Back.

But with the spectres of Mandelson and Blair in the background, it feels more like: Let’s Turn Labour’s Clock Back.

BBC’s excuse for evil

EXECUTIONS in cold blood, rocket attacks on innocent children, bodies paraded through the streets.

Nobody should be in any doubt that yesterday’s attack on Israel was a monstrous terrorist assault on a free nation.

So shame on the BBC for insisting on calling the assailants “Hamas militants”.

They are terrorists, plain and simple.

The BBC should tell it straight and say that.
