Lara Trump made to leave Fox News after dad-in-law Donald announced 2024 bid bans paid contributors

Lara Trump has been forced out of Fox News after the network introduced a ban on employing people running for office or who are directly connected to active campaigns.

After her father-in-law Donald Trump’s announced his 2024 bid for the White House last month, it now rules her out from continuing to receiving a paycheck from the Republican-leaning news channel. 

‘We appreciate Lara’s valuable contributions across Fox News Media programming,’ a Fox News Media representative said in a statement. 

Lara became a paid contributor for the network last year. 

Although her departure from the network is on good terms and based on the channel’s protocol, former White House officials are have normally been welcomed to appear contributors on cable networks.

Lara Trump has been forced to part ways as an official contributor to Fox News which has a policy that prohibits people from being contributors when they announce a campaign for public office

‘I sort of feel like I’ve been an unofficial member of the team for so long. You guys know, it was kind of a joke over the past five years, I would come there so often that the security guards were like maybe we should just give you a key. So to be part of the team I am so, so excited,’ she told Fox & Friends when she excitedly joined in spring 2021. 

Lara, who is married to Eric Trump, has not appeared on the network since Donald Trump made his announcement to run on November 15. She would however still be allowed to appear on the channel without being paid.

When Lara would appear on Fox News she would robustly defend her father-in-law as the January 6th Committee looked into any involvement he may have had at the 2021 Capitol insurrection as well as his recent handling of classified documents after leaving office. 

Last month, Lara Trump appeared on Fox Business Network following her father-in-law’s announcement of his candidacy.

Fox network’s rules bar Lara Trump from being paid for her commentary although she could appear on-air unpaid

Anchor Stuart Varney told her: ‘I’m sure you’re very supportive of your father-in-law, but to those of us on the outside looking at it, it didn’t seem as though he’s got the old magic, you know what I mean?’ 

Lara Trump countered: ‘Oh, well, I highly disagree with that,’ she said.

On-air criticism of Trump has been kept to a minimum on Fox News but the pages of its sister newspaper publications The New York Post and Wall Street Journal have been openly critical of Trump, his chances of winning and the impact a second term may have.

It is widely known that executive chairman of Fox News parent Fox Corporation, Rupert Murdoch, does not support the former president’s decision to make a third run for the White House.

Other alumni from the Trump White still feature on Fox News including former press director Kayleigh McEnany who co-hosts daytime show Outnumbered. Political advisor Kellyanne Conway still appears as a contributor. 

Last year, Fox News terminated a contributor deal with former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she announced she was standing for governor of Arkansas. Huckabee won her election in November.

Despite Trump’s setbacks, he still remains the undisputed leader of the Republican party with a loyal base of MAGA conservatives who are also Republican primary voters, making him a serious contender right from the start.

However, Trump’s plans to build a a campaign feels more like a skeleton crew of his loyal aides that ran his successful 2016 rather than the huge operation which ran his failed 2020 reelection bid.
