New Poll: Trump Agenda Wildly Popular With Americans

On Monday, the Trump administration released a missive on the official White House promoting the overall favorable results of a new poll conducted by Harvard CAPS-Harris, showing broad approval from the American public for President Trump’s policies.

A new poll by Harvard CAPS-Harris reveals the majority of the country backs President Donald J. Trump and his actions to bring much-needed reforms that are making America great again.

  • 81% support deporting criminal illegal immigrants.
  • 76% support a “full-scale effort to find and eliminate fraud and waste in government.”
  • 76% support closing the border with additional security and policies.
  • 69% support keeping men out of women’s sports.
  • 68% support government declaring there are only two genders.
  • 65% support ending race-based hiring in government.
  • 63% support “freezing and re-evaluating all foreign aid expenditures and the department that handled them.”
  • 61% support reciprocal tariffs.
  • 60% support direct U.S. negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
  • 59% support cutting government spending already approved by Congress.
  • 57% support ending the ban on new offshore drilling.

These are some positive indicators indeed. A look at the poll results reveals more, not all of which is as favorable for the Trump administration, while still being encouraging.

For example:

“Do you think Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) departments are needed in government or should they be eliminated to reduce waste?”

This question produced results of 51 percent “Needed” vs. 49 percent “Eliminated.” That’s not the overwhelming show of support one would hope to see. But there’s more:

Would you say you are a Kamala Harris voter who wishes Harris won; a Donald Trump voter who wishes Harris won; a Harris voter who is now satisfied with Trump or a Trump voter satisfied with their choice?

The results compiled, including independents and “other:”

  • Trump voter satisfied with their choice: 40 percent
  • Harris voter who wishes Harris won: 37 percent
  • Harris voter who is now satisfied with Trump: 8 percent
  • Trump voter who wishes Harris won: 6 percent.

It’s a little difficult to imagine where that last 6 percent came from, but in any such statistical exercise, there is always a greater-than-zero chance of some odd results.

All in all, it’s a good positive showing for the Trump administration, who have accomplished a tremendous amount in one month. Most of the results are legitimately overwhelmingly positive. Still, there may well be an element of a “honeymoon period” here, but this is an administration that’s breaking a lot of new ground, both in policies that are bold and far-reaching and in bringing together a cabinet and staff who are not the usual Washington insiders. Poll results aren’t always terribly meaningful, but the trends multiple polls reveal can be informative. Stay tuned, because there will be more polls, there will be more fast and furious policy-making by this new Trump administration, and in a few more months, some trends should be more apparent.
