Hearing Ends in Chaos, Lawmaker Loses It After Chairman Refers to Dem Rep Sarah McBride As ‘Mister’

A House hearing hosted by the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Europe ended in shocking fashion after Congressman Bill Keating (D-MA) threw a temper tantrum when Chairman Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) referred to Democrat Rep. Sarah McBride as “Mr. McBride.”

The hearing titled, “Arms Control, International Security, & U.S. Assistance to Europe: Review and Reforms for the State Department,” came to a screeching halt when Self recognized McBride (D-DE).

“I now recognize the representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride,” Self announced.

Things began rather mundanely, as McBride fired back, “Thank you, Madam Chair.”

Keating, though, decided to take up the fight on McBride’s behalf and asked Self to repeat what he had said. Shortly thereafter, he lost his temper.

When Self tried to move on, Mr. Keating stomped his foot, slammed his fist, and demanded some sort of perceived respect for Mr. McBride.

“You will not continue it with me unless you introduce a duly elected representative the right way,” he shouted.

Self essentially said, “Fine, we’re out,” and immediately adjourned the hearing.

“This hearing is adjourned,” he said, slamming the gavel down.

At least they weren’t trying to discuss anything of importance. It was only a hearing on arms control, after all. And international security. Who needs all that noise when we have to worry about whether we refer to a biological male as “Ms.”? Amirite?

For those still confused, the Representative from Delaware became the first openly transgender member of Congress in January. McBride has been the subject of controversy from day one as Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) introduced a resolution to bar transgender men from using women’s restrooms in Capitol buildings.

“The sanctity of protecting women and standing up against the Left’s systematic erasure of biological women starts here in the nation’s Capitol,” Mace told Fox News Digital at the time.

McBride issued a statement after Chairman Self decided to end the hearing due to his colleague’s antics.

“I was disappointed that the Chair decided to end a committee hearing early,” he said. “I was prepared to move forward with my questions for the Subcommittee on nuclear nonproliferation and US support for Democratic allies in Europe.”
