Laxalt Vows to Purge 'Wokeness,' End Military Vaccine Mandates

It has become apparent that the United States Military has not been immune from leftist ideological capture. Few politicians have been willing to address “wokeness” as well as vaccine mandates in the military. Adam Laxalt, the Republican Senate candidate from Nevada, seems willing to address this issue. Laxalt is one of several GOP candidates looking to unseat a Democratic incumbent and flip the Senate back to GOP control. Nevada has been largely Democratic during the past few election cycles, but polling suggests that could change in 2022.

Laxalt, the former Attorney General of Nevada, is seeking to unseat Democrat Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. Addressing the military is something of value to Laxalt, who served in the U.S. Navy as an officer, and has served in Iraq. The Senate hopeful sees leftist ideology as something that is pervasive in the military and something that presents a threat to the unit’s ability to protect and serve. “The ‘wokeness‘ that is infecting our military is dangerous. It makes us less capable as a fighting force. Do we think the Chinese are scared of us when they see what’s coming down the pipe with our military?” Laxalt said during a campaign event.

There do seem to be consequences for the leftward drift among military brass. Recruitment is down significantly. A report from late June shows that the Army had only reached 40% of its yearly goal with three months remaining. Military leaders have lowered standards in other areas to make up for the poor recruitment results.

In part because of this issue as well as the Biden administration’s low popularity in Nevada, Laxalt has touted the support he has received from those all over the political aisle.

Polls have had this race neck and neck. A key data point is increasing Hispanic support for Laxalt. Per a report in Breitbart, “Cortez Masto’s economy has damaged her standing among Hispanics. In August, she led by 18 points among Hispanics (48-30 percent). Now she is only leading by seven (49-42 percent).” In this report, a USAToday/Suffolk University was cited.

Some other polls have Laxalt leading Cortez Masto. Trafalgar and Big Data Poll, two polls with strong track records of success over recent elections, have Laxalt ahead in this pivotal contest.
