The macabre footage is reportedly in Ussuriysk, after the war dead from the elite 83rd Separate Guards Airborne Assault Brigade were returned for distribution to their families.

The scene – if confirmed – is one of the most chilling and disturbing of the three year war.

One estimate says 400 bodies are stashed in a warehouse in Ussuriysk after being flown seven time zones from the Kursk region of Russia where the men died.

The video has surfaced as Donald Trump says he is convinced Putin wants a peace deal.

Yet the Kremlin dictator keeps throwing more troops onto the frontline and bombing civilians in Ukraine.

Today he hit a hotel in Kryvyi Rih, killing four and wounding more than 30.

British and Americans were among the guests who narrowly escaped death in the hotel.

On the footage of the rows of body bags, piled high, a voice says: “Ussuriysk, March 2025, the guys, the paratroopers are going back home.”

Ukrainian war analyst Yuriy Butusov said: “Today, servicemen from the 83rd Separate Guards Airborne Assault Brigade returned to their home port.

“Each one needs to be packed and taken to their address in Primorsky region.”

Ussuriysk is seven time zones – 5,750 miles – from the war arena.

The men all died in the same battle, it is believed.

Reports say that the 83rd Separate Guards Airborne Assault Brigade has been badly hit seeking to reclaim territory lost to Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk region.

The brigade has been involved in the invasion of Ukraine throughout Putin’s war.

Ukrainian military analyst Dmitry Snegirev reported on 25 February: “I want to stress colossal losses of personnel of Russian occupational troops.

“I am speaking about the 83rd, so-called ‘Ussuriysk’ Brigade.”

It may be that the body bags in the footage refer to these losses last month.

Snegirev said: “We can conclude that from 480 personnel of this specific battalion, which was sent to the Kursk region, 400 of them were utilised (killed) by the Defence Forces of Ukraine.”

He added that the scale of these losses were “unprecedented for Russian troops.”

“I also want to stress that the 83rd brigade is considered to be one of the most elite brigades.

Separately, Vladimir Putin today awarded a posthumous Hero of Russia Gold Star honour to the widow of special forces officer Lt-Col Sergey Chebnyov, 45, a father of three.

He was killed last August, preventing a Ukrainian push towards Kursk nuclear power plant, according to Putin, after Russian troops were surprised by a sudden invasion from their enemy.

The medal was presented to his widow, Olga.

In a Kremlin ceremony Putin said: “I would like to present you with the Star of the Hero, which was awarded to your husband for the feat he performed in defence of the Russian Fatherland in the Kursk direction.

“He and his comrades prevented the enemy from moving in the Kursk nuclear power plant.”

Olga told him: “To us, he was a dad, a husband, a friend. Well, he turned out to be a hero.”

Putin and the Russian authorities have not commented on the video purporting to show the hundreds of dead paratroopers.
