'What We're Up Against': Leavitt Highlights Media's Skewed Coverage of GOP During Schumer Shutdown

The mainstream media appears to be waging a propaganda battle against Republicans in the wake of what has been dubbed the Schumer Shutdown. According to recent statistics, the coverage has been notably skewed, painting a far more favorable picture of the Democrats compared to their GOP counterparts.

On Thursday, Newsbusters, an organization dedicated to monitoring media bias, highlighted this disparity in a post on X. They pointed out that major networks such as ABC, CBS, and NBC have consistently championed the Democratic narrative since the government shutdown commenced on October 1. The imbalance is strikingly evident.

Newsbusters reported that these networks aired 83 statements supporting the Democrats, while only 12 statements were in favor of Republicans. This suggests a significant tilt in media coverage, raising questions about impartiality in the portrayal of this political standoff.

For further insights, readers might explore proposals being discussed by the House GOP that could potentially bring an end to the Schumer Shutdown, as well as how this shutdown has earned a place in the record books under the leadership of Chuck Schumer.

They noted that “on statements favoring Democrats,” there have been 83 from the alphabet news outlets. In contrast, there were only 12 favorable statements for Republicans on those same networks.

The Trump White House reacted to the analysis, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sharing the results on her X account.  She wrote, “This is what we are up against!”

With the skewed coverage of the elections, it’s really no surprise that the results on Tuesday night showed Democrats securing victories in New York City, New Jersey, Virginia, and California.

With increasing pressure from President Trump and perhaps with the election results in mind, the House Republican Study Committee (RSC) Steering Committee is looking to possibly try and pass some kind of short-term funding bill to extend the clean continuing resolution at least until January 2026 and put an end to all the chaos being caused by the Democrats, as RedState reported.

If you are old enough, you will remember these news outlets were singing a much different tune when former President Barack Obama (D) was in office and Republicans were in the minority, and thereby were the ones with the power to shut down the government.

Here’s Obama in 2013, when he called it “blackmail” for Republicans to close the government.

“No Congress before this one has ever, ever, in history, been irresponsible enough to threaten default, to threaten an economic shutdown, to suggest America not pay its bills just to try to blackmail a president into giving them some concessions,” Obama said.

“Congress needs to pay our bills on time. Congress needs to pass a budget on time. Congress needs to put an end to governing from crisis to crisis,” he added. “If Republicans do not like the law, they can go through the regular channels and processes to try to change it. That’s why we have elections.”

Oh, the howling that took place in 2013 and again in 2019 from the legacy media, accusing the GOP Senate of holding the country hostage, as this video from the Media Research Center reminds us.

The same tactic should now be used to point the blame at Democrats. But instead, we get the lapdog media who provide pro-Democrat spin about SNAP benefits running out and air traffic controllers not getting paid.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
