POLICE officers have warned residents of Lewiston, Maine of an active shooter situation.
Authorities are investigating two locations in the town as residents are advised to lock their doors and take shelter.
The Maine State Police released a statement on their X (formerly Twitter) account that read: “There is an active shooter in Lewiston. We ask people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked.
“Law enforcement is currently investigating at multiple locations. If you see any suspicious activity or individuals please call 911. Updates to follow.”
The police department has released a photo of the suspect who appears to be wearing a brown jacket, blue pants, and tan shoes. He has dark hair and a beard.
Residents are currently under a shelter-in-place order and businesses have been asked to lock down.

The Lewiston Police Department has issued a shelter-in-place order for the city.
Residents are advised to lock their doors and avoid approaching any individuals they don’t know.
The suspect is connected to shootings that occurred on Goodard Road, Mollison Way, and Lincoln Street.

Androscoggin County is the second largest county in Maine.
The town of Lewiston is advised to take shelter and remain in lockdown while the shooter is at large.

Lewiston schools in lockdown
Lewiston Public Schools sent out a text message advising community members to take shelter.
WMTW News, a local ABC affiliate, reported that the message also announced a lockdown.

Locations under investigation
The Sun Journal reported that the situation began at a recreational center and a bowling alley in Lewiston.
There was another shooting at Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant and a Walmart Distribution Center.

Businesses on lockdown
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office posted an update on their Facebook account asking businesses to lock down.
The suspect is still at large.
