A Florida nurse has lost his ability to practice in the state following a controversial social media post. Erik Martindale faced significant backlash after declaring online that he would refuse to provide anesthesia for supporters of the MAGA movement. In his now-deleted post, he stated, “It is my right, it is my ethical oath and I stand behind my education,” and added, “I own all of my businesses and I can refuse anyone.” Martindale later claimed that his account had been hacked. On Thursday, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed that Martindale is no longer a registered nurse in Florida, emphasizing, “Healthcare is not contingent on political beliefs, and we have zero tolerance for partisans who put politics above their ethical duty to treat patients with the respect and dignity they deserve.”
State official claims Martindale fled Florida without noticeÂ
A high-ranking state official, speaking to Fox News, verified that Martindale surrendered his nursing license. The official noted that he violated the compact agreement by relocating to Indiana without informing the Florida Board of Nursing. The Florida Department of Health’s online system now reflects that Martindale voluntarily relinquished his license. While the department clarifies that voluntary relinquishment is not considered disciplinary action, this development follows Attorney General Uthmeier’s assertion that Martindale, along with another nurse, Alexis “Lexie” Lawler, lost their right to practice in Florida due to their social media activity.
Why nurse Alexis Lawler lost her licenseÂ
Lawler, aged 55, sparked outrage earlier this month with a TikTok video where she expressed a wish for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who is pregnant, to experience a severe childbirth injury. “I hope that you [expletive] rip from bow to stern and never [expletive] normally again, you [expletive],” she stated. The injury she referred to, a fourth-degree tear, is a serious childbirth complication often requiring surgical repair. Lawler was promptly dismissed from her position at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and her nursing license was revoked on Wednesday.
‘These people should not a license,’ Uthmeier declared at a news conference on Monday. ‘If you’re going to make threats by saying if someone’s a Republican, they hope they get severely injured in childbirth, that’s unacceptable.’ The Daily Mail has reached out to the Florida Department of Health for more information.
