Louis Tomlinson has confessed to feeling a bit awkward performing some of One Direction’s “incredibly raunchy” lyrics now that he’s 34.
The singer first rose to fame at the age of 18 as part of the chart-topping boy band alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and the late Liam Payne.
While the band is known for family-friendly hits such as 2011’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” some of their other songs didn’t shy away from overt themes about intimacy.
Discussing how he selects songs from One Direction’s repertoire for his solo performances, Louis remarked, “The greatest challenge is choosing lyrics that feel appropriate as a 34-year-old man. That’s not as straightforward as it sounds, given that some of those One Direction lyrics are incredibly raunchy, truly!”
Their 2014 track “No Control” includes lines like, “Taste on my tongue, I don’t want to wash away the night before,” while 2013’s “Alive” features the lyrics, “Don’t know why I want to be with every girl I meet / I can’t control it, yeah I know it’s taking over me.”
Elsewhere in the interview Louis opened up about how he and his bandmates had grown closer following Liam’s tragic death aged 31.

Liam died in October 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was found to have alcohol and cocaine in his system.
Louis told Billboard: ‘Naturally, there is a closeness, it definitely feels closer than it was. But I think we’re all so busy, it’s hard to keep that consistency. It also depends person to person.
‘Like, Niall – and hopefully he’d say the same about me – we could not exchange a text in a whole year and then go for a beer and literally be chatting nonstop’.
Last week Louis’s eagle-eyed fans were left convinced that his girlfriend Zara McDermott was ‘here to stay’ after she shared an insight into her Christmas with a video shared to YouTube.
In the video, Love Island star Zara, 29, gave a life update as she chatted about her career and romance with the hitmaker.
But as she filmed a short segment from a stunning property, fans spotted that the house belonged to Louis’s grandparents.
The viewers saw this as a major new step and believed it was a sign that Zara was ‘here to stay’ in the singer’s life long term.
Later in the vlog, Zara gave fans a glimpse of her mobile phone’s home screen, which has a loved-up picture of her and Louis together.
Alongside family friendly hits like 2011’s What Makes You Beautiful, some the band’s other tunes featured not too subtle lyrics about sex (pictured 2014)

In reaction to the vlog, one fan wrote: ‘Recording at Louis’ grandparents’ house to shush the weirdos, oh this queen is here to stay.’
‘And spotted this again in her new blog,’ referring to Zara’s home screen picture.
Zara began dating the One Direction star earlier this year, following her split from boyfriend Sam Thompson.
The Love-Island star-turned-documentary-maker moved on with the musician after a string of dates in March, and their relationship has been going from strength to strength since they confirmed they were officially an item back in August.
Zara and Sam dated for around five years, with the pair going official in May 2019 and later splitting in December 2024.
Her vlog came after she gushed that she had the ‘best birthday ever’ with Louis as they enjoyed a cosy weekend away with his sister Lottie and friends, in December.
She opted to celebrate her 29th birthday low-key by enjoying winter walks, a lavish roast dinner and relaxing in front of a fire.
Zara looked happier than ever as she beamed with Louis’s influencer sister Lottie and her best pal Charli Paton.

The reality star cut a casual figure in a black long-sleeve top and tracksuit bottoms as she held her pretty white two-tier birthday cake, complete with red ribbons.
In another snap, Zara looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder jumper as she carried a huge bouquet of flowers before wrapping up in a winter coat and hat for a country walk.
She also shared a dark picture of One Direction star Louis during a gorgeous sunset by a lake before beaming for a solo snap with the same picturesque backdrop.
The TV personality also shared a sweet snap of Lottie and partner Lewis Burton, 32, cosying up on the sofa as they enjoyed an evening without their two children, Lucky, two, and 11-month-old daughter Flossy.
Zara penned: ‘birthday weekend recap with my favourite people. Feeling lucky, festive, cosy and ready for Christmas hibernation’.
The influencer also shared a loved-up selfie with Louis during a winter walk on Sunday and penned: ‘The best birthday ever with you ❤️ & the final year of my 20’s!!’
