A BIKER in his 50s was killed after crashing his motorcycle during a track day yesterday at Lydden Hill Race Circuit.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene after he came off the bike when leaving the Kent track on a bend, police said.

Kent police said in a statement: “A man in his 50s was riding a green Kawasaki ZX-10R motorcycle and came off the vehicle after leaving the track on a bend.

“The incident at the motorsports venue in Wootton, near Dover, happened at around 12.50pm on Saturday 4 May 2024.”

They are now urging witnesses to come forward if they witnessed the fatal crash on ‘Pilgrims’ corner – a long right hand bend just after the start of the track.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R has a top speed of 186 miles an hour and can get from 0 to 60mph in only 2.6 seconds.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.”

No Limits Trackdays, who ran the event, announced the death “involving a solitary participant” in a statement.

The said: “The matter is currently being handled by Kent Constabulary, and out of respect for the rider’s loved ones, we will refrain from providing any further details at this time.

“We express our sincere gratitude to those who were present at Lydden Hill yesterday and demonstrated exceptional understanding during this difficult situation.”

Lydden Hill Race Circuit said in a statement they were “deeply saddened” by the death at their circuit.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the rider and we thank all those that assisted in the response.”

People paid tribute to the man on social media.

One person said: “That’s so sad, rest in peace. My thoughts are with the man’s friends and family and also to everyone else watching.”

Another person posted: “How tragic… my deepest thoughts and sympathy to Family and Friends.”

While a third wrote: “This is so tragic, probably doing what he loved best.”

No Limits Trackdays describes itself as Europe’s largest bike trackday company for riders to drive circuits.

Its website says it aims to provide a professional environment at a friendly atmosphere for riders around the world.
