New York City has a new leader, Zohran Mamdani, whose tenure as mayor has already stirred considerable public debate, largely due to his controversial appointments. Among them is Cea Weaver, a “housing justice” advocate whose radical views on property ownership have recently come to light. Weaver, associated with the Democratic Socialist Party, has faced criticism after old videos and tweets resurfaced, revealing her self-professed communist beliefs.
This week, Weaver found herself in the spotlight, visibly emotional when confronted with revelations about her family’s ownership of a $1.6 million home in Nashville. Meanwhile, Mayor Mamdani has also faced his share of challenges, notably having to retract a bold claim made over the weekend. He had stated that he was “briefed” on a U.S. operation capturing Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s disputed leader, an assertion that drew significant skepticism.
Mamdani’s tweet, which read, “I was briefed this morning on the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City,” was met with disbelief. He further condemned the action as an “unilateral attack” on a sovereign nation, labeling it a breach of both federal and international law.
“I was briefed this morning on the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City,” Mamdani bizarrely tweeted at the time. “Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law.”
