THE prosecutor in the Jeffrey Epstein trial has been fired from the powerful Manhattan US Attorney’s Office.

Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, was reportedly sacked on Wednesday, with an official reason yet to be announced.

Comey had a major law career, working on the prosecutions of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

The latter was found guilty of multiple sex crimes at trial and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Comey also served as a prosecutor for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs – one of a trio of high-profile cases she faced.

That trial came to an end earlier this month with a mixed verdict, after Combs was convicted of two prostitution-related charges.

Veteran lawyer Comey served in the Southern District of New York and was often considered to be among the state’s most elite prosecutors.

Both law enforcement and Department of Justice sources confirmed Comey’s firing.

It comes amid the Trump administration cracking down on Justice Department lawyers.

Comey’s father James has had a particularly frosty relationship with the US President in recent years.

James Comey was the FBI director when Trump first took to office in 2017.

But controversy struck early on during Trump’s first White House stint as Comey refused to pledge his loyalty to the President at a private dinner.

Just a few months later, Comey was fired amid an investigation into potential links between Russia and Trump’s presidential campaign.

The Secret Service also interviewed the ex-bureau director in May for a cryptic “86 47” Instagram post that led to accusations from Trump that Comey was calling for another assassination attempt against him.
