A BABY and her mother shockingly vanished on their way to go buy formula.
The pair have been missing for almost two weeks as the family is searching for answers.
Whisper Owen, 36, and her daughter, Sandra McCarty suddenly disappeared after a doctor’s appointment, their family says.
The 8-month-old and her mother were expected at home by their family after leaving Fresno, California, but never arrived.
The last time they were seen was on a traffic camera in Atwater, California, on July 15 in a 2006 silver Chevrolet Trailblazer.
“No information has been discovered to explain their disappearance,” police wrote.
“They were driving from Fresno to go back home to Elk Grove and haven’t been seen since.”
Family members said that they did not realize Owen was missing for three days due to a miscommunication, according to CNN.
The mother hadn’t had a working phone for around a year.
According to the outlet, Owen has high blood pressure, and had been hospitalized multiple times during the pregnancy with McCarty.
“My fear is that maybe there was a medical emergency behind the wheel, and maybe she had veered off the road,” Richard Owen, Whisper’s brother, told CNN.
“The last time I talked to my sister, she was talking about how good life was. She was just happy. There was no reason for her to want to disappear or to leave.”
Disappearance timeline
The two’s timeline of their day on July 15:
- The baby has a routine doctor’s appointment: 8:30 a.m.
- The two visit Whisper’s brother then head back to her mother’s house: 2:45 p.m.
- Whisper and Sandra leave Fresno after visiting family: 5 p.m.
- Traffic camera catches Whisper’s car on camera in Atwater: shortly after 8 p.m.
Sandra and Whisper have not been seen since.
The Fresno Police Department said that they do not believe the two are in the Fresno area any longer, according to the outlet.
The agency also said that no foul play is suggested as of now.
Vickie Torres, Owen’s mom, told NBC affiliate KCRA that the two had a “wonderful” visit before she went missing.
“The only thing she had to do was stop and get a can of formula because she was on her last bottle,” she said.
“The not knowing, it’s brought me to a point where I’m— it’s a cross between anger and numb…I’m terrified. I’m just terrified.”
Family members have said that the police response to their disappearance has been frustrating.
Whisper is 5’6, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Her daughter, Sandra, is 1’10 with brown and green eyes, and was wearing a pink onesie.
Police urged those with any information to call 911.
