A MOM has been arrested after her daughter showed up at a neighbor’s door with no shoes and a sign that said please adopt me, police said.
Nicodia Samuels, 33, stands accused of child endangerment after allegedly leaving her three young children, including a one-year-old, alone at their Franklin County, Pennsylvania home.
On November 8, the two residents of Chambersburg, which is about three hours west of Philadelphia, called police to report that a child showed up at their doorstep that night.
Erika and Aineel David said they were shocked to see the little seven-year-old girl walking around in the 40 F weather with no jacket, CBS affiliate WHP reports.
What was even more frightful was a sign she was holding that allegedly said: “Please adopt me my mother hits me I have no home.
“My school is (redacted.) My mom broke my iPad,” court documents seen by the Gannet-owned newspaper Public Opinion reveal.
After the couple opened the door, the little girl started crying and begged them not to take her home and let her stay, Erika told the local station.
When they asked what her name was and where she lived, the little girl refused to answer, the couple said.
But they were able to identify her after looking through the school backpack that she had brought with her.
Worried for her safety, Erika and Aineel called for a police officer who was able to convince the little girl to walk him to her house, court documents allege.
He walked up to find the front door slightly open and received no response when he knocked on it.

Inside, the officer heard an infant crying upstairs and found a two-year-old child standing at a baby gate set up in front of a doorway, according to the docs.
He later discovered there was a one-year-old sleeping in another bedroom.
Meanwhile, officers back at the police station were searching to find the children’s parents.
Samuels came up in their system and was contacted by the officers, the docs reveal.
She answered their call and told them she was coming home after running a quick errand.
Once she finally came back to the home, the officer asked what was going on, to which she allegedly replied, “Nothing.”
The police officer said that she asked her seven-year-old what happened and appeared to not realize she had been walking outside the home, the court docs said.
According to the documents, the mom told police that she was in the process of moving and had left her children because they were sleeping.
She at first claimed that she was nearby, but the officer said she had been gone for at least 45 minutes.
An initial investigation revealed that her previous home was around a half-hour drive away.
Samuels has been charged with three felony counts of child endangerment and was released on $25,000 unsecured bail after she was arraigned on November 15.
Franklin County Children and Youth Services have approved a safety plan for her children, according to police.
