During a segment on “CNN News Central” this past Wednesday, Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts offered a candid assessment of the current geopolitical climate, stating, “Iran is under some economic pressure right now.” He emphasized the urgency of re-evaluating U.S. foreign policy, declaring, “We’ve got to cut our losses and go home.”
Moulton criticized the trajectory of the ongoing conflict, describing it as a failure at every turn. He pointed out a significant shift in approach by the Trump administration, noting their apparent retreat and pursuit of a deal with Iran. “Let’s be clear, it’s not Iran begging for a deal. It’s the Trump administration,” he remarked. In Moulton’s view, this diplomatic pivot is a necessary step to prevent deeper entanglement and to mitigate further losses. “We’re losing the war. We’ve got to cut our losses and go home,” he asserted.
Highlighting the need for adept negotiation, Moulton stressed the importance of engaging seasoned State Department professionals instead of relying on Trump’s real estate associates. “We don’t have a lot of leverage,” he acknowledged, but emphasized the capability of experienced negotiators to utilize their deep understanding of Iran’s strategies and pressures to broker a favorable outcome.
Addressing the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz, Moulton cautioned against any potential Iranian dominance in the region. He urged the necessity of crafting a more robust agreement than what appears to be on the table from the Trump administration, ensuring America’s interests and stability in the region are safeguarded.
