A PROPERTY owner has blasted his homeowner’s association for attempting to prohibit him from his enjoyable hobby that’s encouraged by agriculture experts.

Adam Liegner has been at war with his homeowner’s association in Boise, Idaho, since they attempted to stop him from beekeeping on the premises.

Beekeeping has helped keep bee population numbers up by nurturing and protecting hives, a hobby that’s encouraged by the United States Department of Agriculture.

However, Nature’s Wood Duck Island Home Owners Association, which controls Leigner’s neighborhood, has called on him to stop the practice.

Liegner placed his beehive in one of the HOA’s common areas behind his father Jeff’s home, and the HOA has requested he get rid of it, according to BoiseDev.

Liegner managed to move the beehive to his father’s property, but it wasn’t enough for the HOA, who sent his dad another violation notice.

Jeff has blasted his HOA, telling BoiseDev they had no right to ban him from keeping bees.

Despite being unable to make new rules to restrict beekeeping, the HOA did have an existing law banning insects, “unless the presence of such creatures does not constitute a nuisance” was enough, according to BoiseDev.

The group went back and forth on the issue until the HOA threatened to take legal action against the father and son.

HOA board members went to the county with footage of Liegner trimming trees in an area that he claimed was part of his yard.

However, the board members insisted the trees were part of the neighboring park.

Liegner was charged with malicious injury to property.

Despite the charges being later dismissed, the legal action cost the Liegners attorney fees, plus a $3,000 donation to Ada County Parks and Waterways that was decided upon during mediation.

The Liegners called out their HOA for their “bully behavior,” telling BoiseDev: “Bullies should never be tolerated, and we refuse to capitulate to their disingenuous hostilities and intimidation.”
