AS HALLOWEEN fast approaches, spooky decorations are going up outside homes across the country – but not all places want them.
When any festive season comes around, be it Halloween or Christmas, the same question always comes up.
How soon is too soon for decorations to start turning the street into a spooky backdrop or a festive winter wonderland?
One homeowner received a “passive-aggressive” letter from his HOA after erecting a 12-foot skeleton outside of his home in late August.
The famous $300 Home Depot decoration known as Skelly was affectionately named Hal by proud owner Corey Bassett.
Bassett, from Tampa, Florida showed off his new decoration on the niche Facebook group “12 Foot Skeleton Owners Group,” which has over 260,000 members.
He told Morning Brew: “My neighbors love him.
“There’s even a little toddler who loves to see him every day on their walk with their mother.”

Despite this child’s sweet daily routine, Bassett’s HOA sent him a seven-day warning to remove Hal.
The letter stated that Bassett had violated the rules over seasonal decorations.
“Improper Item in View – Seasonal Decorations,” the notice stated.
Rather than pay a fine, Hal was reluctantly taken down by the homeowner but has returned as a feature this month for the spooky season.
Meanwhile, others more dedicated to their bony friends have decided to bend the rules by dressing up their skeletons in different festive outfits.
To mark Thanksgiving some have added a pilgrim outfit or turned it into cupid for Valentine’s Day.
Others incorporate the spooky decoration into their Christmas theme by turning the 12-foot structure into a Grinch.
Despite being asked to temporarily take Hal down, Bassett told the news outlet that his HOA is not very strict and that it will mainly “send a vague passive-aggressive letter” to resolve minor issues.
