Reality TV personality Kiddwaya has received a substantial amount of criticism on social media following the initiation of a donation drive by his Kiddwaya Foundation aimed at offering assistance to those affected by the recent violent incidents in Benue State.
The backlash comes as many question the sincerity of Kiddwaya’s efforts and criticize his involvement in the fundraising campaign given his background as a public figure primarily known for his reality TV appearances.
Instead of receiving praise, many Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) are criticising the billionaire son for what they describe as “performative generosity.”
What sparked this controversy? A viral tweet from @MrMekzy_ ignited the discussion.
“That brother gave White Money $30k for one plate of jollof rice. It has reached time to help his own people now and he’s dropping account number and asking us to donate. Smh.”
Another user, @BabyWhale___ didn’t hold back either:
“Thunder fire everyone involved in creating this nonsense I just read. From the designer of the logo, to the social media handler and the werey Kiddwaya. Thunder fire all of you.”
The reactions continued to pour in with @blazeepascal writing:
“Kiddwaya this format don cast naa. You are now out of ideas.”
The criticism was sparked by a post from the Kiddwaya Foundation, which urged Nigerians to donate to relief efforts for the crisis in Benue. The appeal characterised the situation as a national emergency and requested support in the form of money, advocacy, and platform sharing.
However, social media users quickly pointed out the irony of this plea. They reminded Kiddwaya of his past extravagant acts, including a $30,000 gift he gave to fellow ex-BBNaija housemate White Money for a single meal.
Many people feel that if he can afford such lavish gifts, he should be contributing his own money instead of asking the public for help.
As of now, Kiddwaya has not responded to the criticism.
