NJ Gov. Sherrill Accuses Trump of Despising Military Service

Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) sharply criticized President Donald Trump during an appearance Wednesday on CNN’s “OutFront,” saying she believes Trump “despises military service.”

CNN host Erin Burnett noted Sherrill’s own military background and pointed to her support for 13 fellow veterans running in midterm races. Burnett referenced Sherrill’s argument that sending veterans to Congress means electing “dedicated public servants” who are trained to confront difficult fights and challenge the status quo, then asked whether Sherrill felt the same standard should apply to the White House.

Sherrill responded, “I think that we have a president who despises military service. He had his made-up bone spurs that his dad’s doctor wrote a note for him so he could get out of service. He thinks people who serve are suckers and losers.” She also pointed to Pete Hegseth, describing him as “the person he put in charge of our military” and calling him “completely unqualified.” Sherrill cited “credible allegations of sexual assault and harassment” and said Hegseth had “failed at every job he had.” She added that Trump’s decision to elevate him showed “what he thinks of our military,” arguing that Hegseth is now failing in “a really key role” with consequences for “the safety and security of Americans” and for those who serve.
