Northeast India Flash Flood: 14 Dead And 120 People Gone Missing

After a flash flood hit Northeast India, AT LEAST 14 persons were killed and 120 more were reported missing.

At least six other bridges over the Teesta River have collapsed as a result of the flash flood, which also washed down the Teesta-III dam near Chunthang.

23 members of the Indian army who are now being sought after in various search and rescue activities are included on the list of missing people.

Twenty-three army troops have been reported missing, and some vehicles have reportedly been immersed in slush, according to a representative for the defense.

There are at least 82 additional missing civilians.

“Ten bodies have been found so far in various places.”

Images of the river rushing down the hills and into the Lachung Valley’s residential neighborhoods are horrifying.

It has also been claimed that a number of army bases and infrastructure have been damaged.

The Teesta-III dam in Chunthang was destroyed by the flash flood, and at least six additional bridges over the Teesta also caved in.

The Indian National Highway 10 (NH10) has also sustained extensive damage.

North Sikkim has been completely cut off from the rest of the state, according to Prabhakar Rai, director of Sikkim’s disaster management division.

“The severely damaged NH10 is causing serious connectivity problems in the state of Sikkim.”

Officials have verified that at least 40 dead have been found in various locations since the calamity happened and that the death toll is likely to grow considerably.

Prem Singh Tamang, the chief minister of Sikkim, posted on X, saying, “We are aware of the current catastrophic tragedy that has afflicted our state.

Help is being given, and emergency services have been mobilized to the affected communities.

Government officials have reported that at least eight significant bridges have been washed away along the banks of the Teesta River and that about 15,000 nearby residents are expected to be impacted.

In the meantime, Sikkim and other neighboring regions that are close to the banks of the Teesta River are being worked on by four teams of the National Disaster Reserve Force (NDRF).
