SHOPPERS are being warned to stay away from a popular yogurt brand after pieces of sharp plastic were discovered inside.

The contaminated product comes with toppings such as Oreos, M&M’s, granola, and cookie dough, and is sold in stores nationwide.

On July 11, Danone US announced a nationwide recall of all YoCrunch yogurt products over the alarming safety risk.

Based in White Plains, New York, and Louisville, Colorado, the company said the plastic was only found in the dome toppers, not the yogurt itself.

Still, consumers are being told not to eat any YoCrunch products currently on the market.

The clear plastic fragments measure up to an inch long and may have jagged edges that could cut someone or cause choking, making them especially risky for children.

Danone said it began pulling the yogurts after receiving complaints from customers who found plastic pieces in their snack.

The company is now working with the FDA and retail partners to remove the affected products from store shelves.

“We take every consumer experience seriously,” Danone said in a press release, adding the recall was voluntary and done “in line with its commitment to product quality and consumer safety.”

YoCrunch’s signature appeal comes from mix-ins like cookie dough, granola, and candy blended into flavored yogurt, now at the center of the safety scare.

The recall includes dozens of variations, such as vanilla yogurt with M&M’s, vanilla with Oreo pieces, strawberry with granola, and vanilla with Twix, Snickers, or cookie dough.

The yogurt takes several forms as well, including single 6-ounce cups, four-packs of 4-ounce servings, eight-packs, and 18-count club packs.

All expiration dates from July through September 2025 are affected.

Consumers can find a full list of UPC codes and date codes in Danone’s press release.

Wegmans is among the grocery stores that have notified customers of the recall and are offering refunds at the customer service desk.

Other major chains are expected to do the same, though Danone has not confirmed how long YoCrunch will be off shelves.

Some of the plastic shards found are up to 25 millimeters in size – nearly an inch – raising serious injury concerns.

While no injuries have been reported yet, the potential for choking prompted the sweeping recall.

Danone has not provided a timeline for when fresh, safe YoCrunch yogurt will return to stores.

Until then, all existing products should be tossed or returned.

In May, more than 20 frozen desserts were pulled from shelves due to concerns they could cause mouth injuries and other health problems.

Wells Enterprises issued a voluntary recall at the end of June, warning that 22 bulk ice cream and frozen yogurt products may be contaminated with hard plastic.

The recall affects 3-gallon tubs distributed to more than 100 locations nationwide.

The plastic fragments could pose serious risks, including mouth injuries, dental damage, and choking.
