A NEIGHBOR has told how he suspected the person living next door to him was up to no good after spotting a few strange details at their home.
Lee Hornfischer spoke out after cops raided his 21-year-old neighbor Westen Soule’s home in Burlington, Connecticut, last week.
After serving a search warrant, Connecticut State Police found a “clandestine mushroom-growing factory” growing inside.
Cops said the factory contained psilocybin mushrooms in “various stages of growth,” with an estimated total street value of $8.5 million.
Speaking afterwards, neighbor Lee Hornfischer described the property leading up to the raid.
“They were running air conditioners, and it was a cold day, which didn’t seem right,” he told Boston25News.
“They had air conditioners in the top windows, and also in the front of the house.
“There were more cars during the day. It almost seemed like a place of employment, more than a place to sleep at night.”
Soule, 21, was charged with operating a drug factory and possession with intent to sell and distribute narcotics.

Authorities carried out the bust after receiving a tip that Soule was allegedly operating a clandestine psilocybin mushroom growing operation at the residence.
Upon arrival at the home, detectives noted ventilation equipment “consistent with those used in clandestine laboratories,” police said in a release.
Soule showed detectives a detached garage that held “a large mushroom growing operation.”
He claimed that the mushrooms were not illegal such as psilocybin.
Officials asked about activities inside the main house, but Soule declined to consent to a search of the home.
Once they were granted a search warrant, Soule told them the mushrooms were psilocybin.
Psilocybin mushrooms are a Schedule 1 controlled substance, which are defined as drugs, substances and chemicals that are not currently accepted for medical use and have a high potential for abuse.
Officials took Soule into custody at the scene and transported him to Troop L in Litchfield, Connecticut.
He was held on a $250,000 cash and surety bond. He is scheduled for arraignment at New Britain Superior Court next Thursday, November 16.
