In a recent conversation with CNN’s Elex Michaelson, Representative Nancy Pelosi from California did not hold back in her criticism of President Donald Trump, branding him as “the worst thing on the face of the earth.” Her comments, captured in a video shared on X, painted a stark picture of her views on the former president.
During the interview, Pelosi spared no words, referring to Trump as “a vile creature” and lambasting his tenure as a period of significant constitutional disregard. The full interview is scheduled to be broadcast on CNN’s program “The Story Is with Elex Michaelson” at midnight Eastern Time, promising further insights into her perspectives.
Pelosi accused Trump of dishonoring the Constitution and transforming the Supreme Court into what she termed a “rogue court.” Moreover, she criticized his apparent sway over House Speaker Mike Johnson from Louisiana, suggesting that Trump’s influence effectively “abolished the House of Representatives.” She also accused him of stifling the freedom of the press during his administration.
This exchange is not the first instance of public discord between Pelosi and Trump. Their contentious relationship has been marked by sharp exchanges, including a notable incident last year when Trump retaliated on social media after Pelosi described him as “dangerous” and “evil” in the wake of his misleading statements about the January 6, 2021, Capitol attacks.
Pelosi and Trump have taken aim at each other in the past. Last year, Trump took to social media to knock Pelosi after she called him “dangerous” and “evil” following his false claims about the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks.
Earlier Monday, NBC News reported that multiple California and House Democrats believe Pelosi, 85, will not run for reelection.
Ian Krager, Pelosi’s communications director, said on the social platform X later in the day that his boss is “fully focused” on the California redistricting proposition, on the ballot in Tuesday’s elections in the Golden State.
When asked about her 2026 plans on Monday, Pelosi deflected, saying her focus is on the redistricting initiative and ensuring Democrats win back the House “to protect us from the poison of the Trump administration.”
The initiative, Proposition 50, would transfer control of California redistricting from an independent commission to the state Legislature if it passes.
Pelosi, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), former President Obama and other prominent Democrats are backing the proposal, added to the ballot in response to the GOP-led Texas Legislature redrawing its congressional map mid-decade.
Multiple challengers, including state Sen. Scott Wiener and Saikat Chakrabarti, a former chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), have entered the Democratic primary in Pelosi’s district.
The two-time House Speaker, though, told CNN that if she ran for a 20th full term in Congress, she has “no doubt” she would win.
“That isn’t even a question,” she said. “It isn’t arrogant, it’s competent. I know my district.”
