THE clothes and phone of a missing man have been found as the desperate search for him continues, his family said.
Democratic candidate Petros Krommidas, 29, was last seen on Wednesday when he went for a night swim to train for an upcoming triathlon.
Less than 24 hours after the Long Island native walked onto the beach where he usually trained, his family reported him missing.
On Thursday, cops found his towel, clothes, and phone left on the beach where he exercised, according to a Facebook post from his family.
Krommidas is “not a stranger to cold water training,” his family said.
However, it was “completely out of character for him not to respond,” prompting them to contact police after not hearing from him.
He parked his car by the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach, New York, before he disappeared.
“He locked his car, took a towel, and around 10:30 PM walked onto the beach to exercise, just as he had done many times before,” his family said.
Cops said he was seen in Baldwin, which is about seven miles from the hotel, at 9 pm before he disappeared on April 23.
His family is now asking for volunteers to search the area where his belongings were found.
“We need people to walk the beaches — focused between from Lido Beach to Riis Park- particularly during times of high tide,” his family said.
“Every pair of eyes helps. Every step along the beach matters.
“Thank you for being part of bringing Petey home.”
Krommidas was last seen wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, police said.
He is described a 6’2″ tall, 230 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
The Nassau County Police Department hasn’t returned The U.S. Sun’s request for an update on the search.
