The horrific crash happened on April 10 at 3:17 pm, when a helicopter fell into the Hudson River by Lower Manhattan in New York City.

The crash is believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure with the rotor system, which forced the helicopter to break apart.

Now, photos from an initial investigation depict the exact moment the aircraft began to fall apart.

The photos show the helicopter flying as usual, followed by the beginning stages of the breakup.

In the blurry images, the main rotor blade fully separates from the helicopter’s tail.

The final image shows the blade with the transmission seemingly nose-diving into the river.

According to the report, the aircraft was not equipped with any photo or audio devices, which would give investigators a better understanding of what happened.

However, the pilot was reportedly wearing a pair of sunglasses that had video and audio recording capability.

Unfortunately, those sunglasses were not recovered.

HUDSON HORROR

The helicopter was giving a tour of Lower Manhattan to a family visiting from Spain when it crashed.

European automation executive Agustin Escobar, his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their children, aged 4, 5, and 11 years old, were killed in the crash alongside the pilot, 36, ABC News reported.
