In an address to the nation on June 21, 2025, President Donald Trump detailed the reasoning behind, and the success of, his decision to bomb Iranian nuclear research and development sites designed to facilitate the construction of nuclear weapons.

The speech was preceded by a statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanking President Trump for the action.

Congratulations, President Trump! Your bold decision to target Iran’s nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history. In Operation Rising Lion, Israel has done truly amazing things. But in tonight’s action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, America has been truly unsurpassed. It has done what no other country on earth can do. History will record that President Trump acted to deny the world’s most dangerous regime the world’s most dangerous weapon. His leadership today created a pivot of history that can help lead the Middle East and beyond to a future of prosperity and peace. President Trump and I often say “peace through strength.” First comes strength. Then comes peace. And tonight, President Trump and the United States acted with a lot of strength. President Trump, I thank you. The people of Israel thank you. The forces of civilization thank you. God bless America God bless Israel, and may God bless our unshakable alliance.

Flanked by Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, in a brief statement, Trump made the following points.

  • Trump confirmed the previously reported news that the United States attacked Iran’s three key nuclear development sites – Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan – with a combination of, depending on the site, “bunker buster” bombs dropped from B-2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles fired from U.S. submarines.
  • The President reminded America that Iran has been attacking and murdering Americans both directly and through proxies since the seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979.
  • President Trump reiterated that it is entirely up to what remains of the Iranian regime as to whether it wants peace, meaning an unconditional surrender, or continued hostilities. The President made it clear that further military action by the United States is on the table.
  • The President thanked Netanyahu for his close cooperation throughout the events leading up to the attack.
  • President Trump praised all members of the U.S. military involved with the attack. He concluded his remarks with direct love for God, and a request for His blessing upon the United States and Israel.

The President added that Secretary of Defense Hegseth will be holding a press conference at 8:00 AM EDT on Sunday, June 22, to provide further details about the operation.
