Prince William and Kate Share Family Photo on Mountain Rescue Awareness Day

The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a new family photograph from Catherine’s Three Peaks Challenge to mark Mountain Rescue Awareness Day.

Shared on Instagram this morning, the picture captures the Wales family and fellow participants after Kate’s demanding mountain expedition in June.

The Princess of Wales completed the challenge by climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon—in less than 24 hours.

The endurance event raised funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the organisation linked to the hospital where she received treatment.

Kate revealed in 2024 that she was undergoing cancer treatment and announced earlier this year that the disease was in remission.

In the newly shared image, the Wales family stand at the base of Snowdon, with Catherine positioned in the centre of the group.

The accompanying message, signed “W & C”, said: “On Mountain Rescue Awareness Day, we send our heartfelt thanks to everyone who volunteers their time and expertise to protect people in some of the world’s most beautiful—and challenging—landscapes.

“Through our connection with this remarkable organisation, we have witnessed first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion at the heart of their work.

“Meeting local mountain rescue teams during this summer’s Three Peaks Challenge gave us the chance to thank them personally for the essential work they do to keep walkers and climbers safe throughout the year.

“We are immensely proud to support the extraordinary volunteers who answer calls in every kind of weather, often with little warning, to help people in their most difficult moments. To the entire mountain rescue community, thank you for your courage, commitment and dedicated service.”

Prince William joined Kate in the photograph, placing his hands on the shoulders of the couple’s youngest child, Prince Louis.

Princess Charlotte and Prince George, who began at Eton College last month, were also pictured smiling beside their mother after she completed the challenge.

While climbing Ben Nevis, Kate also stopped to speak with Ted Haslam, an 11-year-old paraplegic boy whose father helped carry him up the mountain in his wheelchair.

Ted, from Sutton Coldfield, was pushed and carried by 15 friends and relatives, including his father Pete, as the group tackled Britain’s highest peak.

When the princess approached Ted, she joked about the conditions, saying: “Not great weather.” She then asked him: “How are you doing, Ted? You’re not too cold?”

Kate also noticed that many people were wearing T-shirts despite the cold, asking: “So many people are stood in their T-shirts! Why are they doing that?! Who’s this, is that your lucky mascot? Has it got a name?”

One of Ted’s team explained that it was a mascot for the charity Molly Ollys, which provided play equipment for the boy while he was being treated in hospital.

Kate then asked him: ‘Have you been up here before?’ Ted replied: ‘Never, it’s my first time.’ And Kate said: ‘Well it’s such a shame you can’t see any of the views.’

She added: ‘I’m so impressed, really, you’ve made it to the second peak. Super, well done you. We’ll be cheering you on. Hopefully we’ll see you on Snowdon. Good luck.’

It was later revealed that Kate made a private donation to Ted’s fundraising for Molly Ollys, writing on his JustGiving page: ‘One of the real highlights of the Three Peaks Challenge was meeting inspiring people like you along the way. Huge congratulations to the entire team for raising money for such a wonderful cause. C.’

She later hosted Ted alongside other Three Peaks participants for a reception at Windsor Castle.
