GEORGIA residents have been warned after a bobcat attacked two small children and two family dogs.

The aggressive animal has mauled a three-year-old and a 14-year-old in two different attacks, about a quarter-mile apart, in Winterville, about an hour and a half northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, according to officials.

The attack happened around 6.30pm on October 6, according to the Oglethorpe Fire Department.

Fire officials posted a warning about the attacks on Facebook, writing: “If you live in that area, we ask you to be mindful of your surroundings and to please keep a close eye on your children when they are outside.

“The Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Public Health, as well as the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office and Oglethorpe County EMS have all been notified.”

Mae Scoggins has recalled the terrifying moment when her niece, Crystal Yamasato, was mauled by the animal.

It happened in the family‘s front yard on Friday evening.

“It came from that direction and ran out. It jumped on her pretty much,” Scoggins told local Fox affiliate WAGA.

“My thought was that it had rabies because it was daylight outside, and they don’t do that,” she added.

Witnesses told the outlet that the bobcat bit the three-year-old and dragged her under a car.

“She had a bunch of scratches all over her arms,” Scoggins said.

“She had two holes right here where it bit her, which it caused a fracture in her finger, and she had a pretty decent sized hole in her back.”

The family dogs, Kota and Bailey, ended up jumping into action and tried to defend the toddler.

“The dogs were a big part of saving her life, I think. Bailey stepped in front of her and the bobcat. Kota is the one who tried to bite at it,” the aunt said.

Another child, who officials say about was 14 years old, was reportedly attacked by the same animal right before the toddler was mauled.

The parents of the child rushed him to the hospital after the attack.

Both victims’ injuries were non-life-threatening.

The bobcat is still on the loose.

The Oglethorpe County’s EMS director has weighed in on the attacks saying their not a normal occurrence.

“Oglethorpe is a rural county. Any animal that is native to Georgia, there is a possibility that it lives here.

“But in my 27-year career, I have never known a bobcat attack,” the official said.
