During Tuesday’s episode of “The Story” on the Fox News Channel, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, particularly highlighting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stance on the devastating loss of life. Whitaker pointed out that Putin has never recognized the scale of casualties as excessive. “Russia has historically been more willing than most nations to endure substantial losses,” he remarked, noting that the millions of casualties seen in this conflict would be intolerable for any other country.
Host Martha MacCallum posed a critical question, asking, “Is Putin the only leader who has not expressed despair over the sheer number of deaths, particularly among young Russian and Ukrainian soldiers? Has he ever admitted that the toll is too great and sought negotiations to end the war?”
In response, Whitaker confirmed, “No, he hasn’t.” He emphasized Russia’s unique position in accepting extensive casualties that other nations would find unacceptable. “Despite these losses, which yield minimal gains on the battlefield, Russia continues its course,” Whitaker explained. He added that this grim reality demands acknowledgment and praised former President Trump for his ability to see through the chaos and destruction in pursuit of a peace agreement, suggesting that Trump remains open to exploring potential resolutions.
